02 Chargeable weight

Weight or space: you pay for the bigger one.

Airlines charge the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight: length × width × height in cm, times pieces, divided by 6,000. Enter your cargo and see which side tips the scale.

Start from an example

Weigh with packaging. Dims are the outer size of each piece, rounded up.

Some couriers divide by 5,000 instead of 6,000, which raises the volumetric weight by 20%. Airline cargo uses 6,000.

04 ULD guide

Know the box before you book.

Most cargo flies on unit load devices (ULDs): containers and pallets shaped to the aircraft. We build them up at KLIA. Typical sizes below; heights and weight limits depend on the aircraft and position.

Typical figures for planning. Aircraft contours, position limits and floor loading decide what really fits; we confirm the build-up plan before acceptance.

06 Your air rate

What moves the price per kilo.

Six things decide most air quotes. The bars show how much each one usually moves the total.

  1. 01

    Chargeable weight

The greater of actual and volumetric weight, priced in breaks: the rate per kilo drops at +45, +100, +300, +500 and +1000 kg.

  2. 02

    Speed of service

Next flight out costs more than a consol that waits two to four days for the next build-up.

  3. 03

    Routing

A direct freighter, a passenger belly or a transit via a hub each price differently on the same lane.

  4. 04

    Surcharges

Fuel and security surcharges per chargeable kilo, set by the airline and reviewed monthly.

  5. 05

    Cargo type

Dangerous goods, pharma, perishables, valuables and oversize pieces need special handling and space.

  6. 06

    Season and capacity

Q4 peak, festive periods and one-way lanes push rates up; we lock space early on contract lanes.

Plus origin and destination charges: pick-up, screening, terminal handling, the air waybill and clearance. Every quote lists them separately.

07 FAQ

Air freight questions.

Ask the air desk directly on WhatsApp. It is staffed until the last flight closes.

Airlines charge the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is length × width × height in centimetres, times the number of pieces, divided by 6,000. The calculator on this page does the sum for you.

Consolidated cargo joins other shippers' freight on a scheduled consol to the hub, which lowers the rate per kilo but adds two to four days. Next flight out books your cargo on the first flight with space, usually within 24 hours of pick-up, at a higher rate.

Yes. Our KLIA team is trained to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and accepts most classes, including lithium batteries (UN3480 and UN3481). We need the safety data sheet before booking; some goods may only fly on cargo aircraft.

We use active temperature-controlled containers or passive packaging qualified for the route, with data loggers from pick-up to delivery. We book airlines and ground handlers with cold rooms at origin, transit and destination.

A commercial invoice, a packing list and the export declaration (K2), which we lodge for you. Some goods also need a permit or a certificate of origin. We issue the house air waybill; the airline issues the master air waybill.

Most Asian hubs are same day or next day airport to airport, and Europe and Australia take one to two days depending on the routing. Door to door adds pick-up, screening and clearance at each end. Transit times on this page are demo values.

Airline liability is limited per kilogram under the Montreal Convention, often far below the value of the goods. We recommend cargo insurance, which we can arrange when you book.
